Little things that can go wrong.

There are some things you cannot control, no matter how hard you try. A wedding is a beautiful celebration of two people who have married the one they love. If this one goal is accomplished, then everything went perfectly. On my wedding day I had 3 garters to make sure one of them would make it to the ceremony. Sure enough, every one of them was left behind. But, I still married my best friend and my one true love. It is great for sharing stories with our friends and family and something to laugh about - one of the little thing I had no control over.

Wedding Food Budget

If you are planning on having a nice wedding with all the trimmings, including lots of delicious food for your guests. Be prepared to pony up the dough!

The food budget should be about 50% of the total wedding cost. The cost of food includes the actual meal cost, bar, 20% service fee, and taxes depending on wear you live.

The more guests you have, the more food you will need. Weren't prepared on spending that much on food? There are alternatives you can do at your wedding by restricting it to appetizers or dessert only. Of course you will have to warn your guests ahead of time that there is no large meal waiting for them and that they will need to eat ahead of time. Or perhaps you can ditch the alcohol bar for more simple drinks. This would be ideal if you were having a brunch type wedding.

     If you both love hamburgers, serve mini sliders with a ton of topping options. If breakfast has always been your thing, serve burritos, french toast and fun cereals to throw your guests for a loop!

Including Your Baby In Your Wedding

Let's face it, its the 21st century. People are going to have babies with previous husbands or wives or even with each other before the big day. For some, it might be very important to make sure their baby is somehow noticed in this joining together.

Like all things there are some Pro's and Con's.

These are based off of young sons or daughters. Obviously older kids wouldn't be too much of a hassle.


Babies are unpredictable. Even if they have napped, or just got a new toy, you never know when they might throw in to a fit. This is the main problem when it comes to having them in the ceremony. They also do not like to sit still or they might get confused when asked to do something specific.


The pro is that your baby will be a part of your special day. You will also get a ton of pictures of them with your groom doing baby things!

If you do decide to bring your baby, make sure to either hire a caregiver or designate a babysitter during the wedding. You will not have time to take care of them the whole wedding and reception.

Also, if you want pictures of your baby, good ones. Consider having that photo shoot before the ceremony when the outfit and attitude is still fresh!

DJ's and the sound system check

At a recent wedding I attended the DJ did not check the system prior to the ceremony. The sound kept cutting in and out and was difficult for the audience to hear what was being said and the officiant to keep his message running smoothly. Check to make sure your DJ is present and set up at least one hour before the ceremony begins to check the system.

Ever heard of it? It does exist! Of course everyone hopes for things to go smooth sailing on their wedding day but there are things that can happen!

It could cover things like, loss of deposits, wedding gown mishaps, ring loss, sudden illness, bad photographs, food problems and more!

In most states, it costs around $200 or less to get everything covered. This definitely would be a great idea for a large wedding and large venue. The insurance money might seem a lot more worth it if something happens that threatens thousands!

10 Worst Things That Could Happen On Your Wedding Day

Are you one of those people who NEED to plan ahead no matter what? You need to be prepared for every situation, especially the ones at your wedding. Here is a list of the worst things that could go wrong at your wedding.

1. Having a bridesmaid, or guest spill their drink on your dress
    This is a major no, no in the wedding world. If you want to avoid this happening. Drink white wine or champagne instead of red. Better yet drink water if you can. And try to be weary people with colorful drinks.

2. A Bridesmaid or Groomsmen is MIA
    You can try to avoid this one by making sure everyone has alarms set if you have a morning wedding. The most common thing is that they sleep in. Or have the maid of honors job be to make sure the wedding party is on their toes with phone call check ups.

3. Weather is Threatening
     Always, always, have a back up plan when it comes to any kind of outdoor wedding. You never know what is going to happen, even weather reports have been known to be wrong.

4. LOTS of Unexpected Guests Show Up
    It's hard to avoid this if its going to happen. If extra guests do show up, let your wedding coordinator handle it. They will figure out the food and chair arrangements. Don't let little things get you down, they probably came with the best intentions.

5. During The Ceremony A Baby or A Cell Phone Keeps Going Off 
  If you are worried the babies might ruin the ceremony, ask for very young children not to attend, or hire a babysitter to entertain them during the ceremony. Also, have your ushers or someone in the bridal party quietly remind people to turn their cells off.

6. During His Toast, The Best Man Says Something Really Inappropriate 
    Avoid this by letting them know ahead of time, whats acceptable and whats not. If its too late, just quickly move on and hopefully everyone will forget shortly.

7. Last Minute, A Family Member Changes In To A Horrible Outfit
    Make sure you talk to everyone and let them know you want them to stay in a certain style/color range, if thats important to you. If it happens anyway, just let it go. Everyone is paying attention to the bride and groom anyway. Don't let that spoil it.

8. Your Flower Girl Refuses To Walk Down The Isle 
    You have to practice practice practice with young kids. Most do fine at the rehearsal and get nervous at the main ceremony. If you sense it happening, have them walk down with a bridesmaid.

9. One Of The Guests Has An Allergic Reaction To The Food
Put on the RSVP card for them to let you know if anyone has a food allergy. Make sure there are items they can eat.

10. Your Bridesmaid Had A BreakUp And Is Teary At The Wedding
      Make sure you give her plenty of attention about her break up before the wedding happens. Make sure she gets all her feelings out and doesn't bottle them up and explode at your wedding.

5 Ways To Recycle Your Wedding Flowers!

So, the wedding is over and you are left with hundreds of flowers. It is a shame to throw them all away. There are some things that can reuse those beautiful flowers!

1. Use potted plants as centerpieces. Make them cute and different sizes and after wards you can take them home or the guests can!

2. Use the petals as wedding confetti. Have everyone grab as many flowers as they can, and when you leave the wedding everyone can throw the petals in the air. Then you can have petals on you and not rice or sprinkles everywhere!

3. Use Succulents. They definitely have a rustic modern look to them. And when the wedding is done, you can replant them!

4. Donate them to charity. Even if they will last a couple days after your wedding. Hospitals, nurseries, rest homes, and homeless shelters always welcome a nice bouquet.

5. Turn your flowers in to a card! There are new easy ways to make recycled papers at home, and it could be a fun memorable activity.

Worlds Best Places For A Destination Wedding!

Most of these places are a tropical paradise, so you can tell what most couples have a desire for!
All these places have resorts, and those resorts already have wedding packages and such for destination weddings!

Pro's and Cons of a Destination Wedding!

Pro: It is actually pretty affordable to have a destination wedding! Like I mentioned, most resorts already have a package deal for the wedding, so odds are it would be one fee. Plus with a   smaller guest list, there are less people to accommodate for.

Con: Its not affordable for your GUESTS. Most of the time guests would have to pay their own plane tickets and room tickets for your wedding, which not all people are prepared to do. 

Pro: A small guest list is less stress for you! You can finally just invite those people you really wanted there, and not send a guilty invitation to the friend you haven't talked to in three years.

Con: A smaller guest list might hurt some feelings. You might want to think about sending people invites anyway to avoid hurt feelings.

Pro: You are already at your honeymoon! You can start your relaxation right away!

Con: Your parents and maybe the guests that are there are on your honeymoon with you. You can't exactly ask them to stay in the Caribbean for a day and then head home. So either establish that you guys are going to have some alone time, or turn it in to a family get together!

Weddings can cost a lot of money. So don't be ushered in to spending more than you should! Don't get talked in to the most expensive wedding dress or band. You can still have a great wedding without  spending extreme extras.

Not only can eating like this make you lose weight. It helps digestion, bloating and gives you more energy! Not to mention helps prevent cancer and heart disease.

If you drink up to two liters of water a day, avoid alcohol, and commit to at least three workouts you could drop about five or more pounds! Plus you will feel GREAT at your wedding!

Let's face it color sets the tone for the whole wedding. I know I have talked about color before but it is important!

Now a days, it seems when you get older, your favorite colors become more sophisticated and you have way more than you did when you were six. Picking a color for your wedding is harder than people think but here are some ideas!

Collect Physical Color Pieces

Yes have a Pinterest board! But having a cork board with scraps of fabric and paper with your color on it will help you sense the colors at the real thing. Get shades! If you know pink is the color, collect different shades that you find and add them. It is also really fun!

Pick A Statement Piece

Look around at your venue, and sense the vibe. Is it a country style venue? Or more castle like? There are certain colors that go with certain styles. Get inspired!

Add Unexpected Colors

Pick a color that stands out. Like having a white wedding with white decor with bright turquoise accents. Or a color you never thought you liked like blood orange!

Making The Guest List!

Picking the guests that come to your wedding can be nerve racking. You know hundreds of people and just can't decide what to do! Follow these guidelines to help!

Inviting Friends

The first friends to go on the list are probably those family friends that are really close to your parents and always treated you like their own little niece or nephew.

If you haven't talked to them in years and they haven't made an effort to get together, then keep them off the list. If its a close friend that lives across the country but is really close to you personally. Give them a call and see if it would even be possible. If so, add them!

Picking Relatives

Obviously pick immediate family to be invited. As well as aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.
When if comes to relatives that are more distant, the rule of thumb is to either invite them ALL or none. If you invite your second cousin and not her family your going to have an interesting conversation next family reunion.

Picking Co-workers

Same rule of thumb as picking distant relatives. Either invite everyone you talk to, or none at all. Just think you SEE those people everyday, you definitely don't want to create awkwardness in that department.

Should You Have Plus-Ones?

Couples always debate whether to have their guests bring an extra person you don't know. On one hand you have a bunch of people you don't know at your wedding. But also you don't want your guests to be alone. You could always have them invite their significant other only. But if you do this, you need to do it across the board.

Planning Your Menu!

Serve What You LIKE

You don't want to have a huge fancy meal full of things you haven't even tried, let alone enjoy eating. Serve the type of cuisine you love the most!

Accommodate Guests, To A Point

Your meal should reflect you, but you should also make it guest friendly. Some people have certain food allergies or obligations. Of course you can't help everyone, but you could have a vegetarian dish, and a gluten free one available. Also, if you and your future spouse love spicy, you might not want to have everything fire burning hot. Have some hot sauce available for those who agree.

Focus on Local and Seasonal Ingredients

You want your food to be as fresh as possible. So if you don't live by the sea, you might not want to have a huge sea food dinner. Look up whats in season for your wedding date and add those ingredients in to your meal. It will make a HUGE difference, and it will be remembered.

Don't Forget To Tip!

People think they have their whole budget down, but don't forget about the people helping you out. Here is a short list of some of the people who might be helping out in your wedding and how much gratuity they should get.

  • Catering Staff, 15 to 20 percent of the catering bill. Splitting it up amongst the catering manager, chefs, and waiters.

  • Musicians and DJ's, Most don't expect to be tipped but are presently surprised when they are. About $20 per musician and $25 for a DJ.

  • Stylist's and Make up Artists, They should be tipped about 15% just like a normal appointment. If anyone extra helps out with washing or shampooing give $3 to $5 each.

  • Photographers, Videographers, Florists, and Wedding Coordinators, Tipping for these people isn't necessary either, but if you wish to it's about $30-50 for photographers, videographers, and florists. And about $50-100 for wedding coordinators.

  • Site Staff, Pay coat checkers $1-2 per guest, for them to share, powder room attendants, .50-$1 per guest to share, and $1-1.50 per car for parking manager to split with the valets.

  • Seamstress, Delivery People, and Drivers, The people delivering flowers and cake should receive $3-$5 each. If limo tip isn't included in your bill, pay 15-20%. For seamstress's a cash tip is not expected but you can always send a photo of you in your dress!

The Things That Should Be On Your Gift Registry!

  1. Plates! Whether they are fancy china or colorful ceramic you should keep these on your list.

  2. Beautiful Things! You don't always have to ask for the practical stuff. Throw some decor items in there to decorate your new home with.

  3. A Cookbook! If you already know how to cook, ask for kitchen stuff instead. But if you feel like you could learn more, you should always have a quality cookbook on hand.

  4. Sheets! Sheets can sometimes be overpriced and you have a hard time buying them for yourself. But they can make an excellent necessary wedding gift!

  5. Serving Pieces! Don't forget about salad bowls and gravy boats! People tend to forget about those sort of things when they shop for themselves.

  6. Table Linens! Either a nice table cloth or nice place mats multiple kinds are great to have on hand.

  7. Towels! Everyone either has too many bad ones, or too little good ones. If someone is going to get you towels for your wedding gift you better believe they will probably be nicer ones.

  8. Glassware! Even if you already have a bunch, it won't hurt to get a nice new set.

  9. Cutlery! Knifes are always an awesome thing to collect in the kitchen. Imagine all the different ones you would get from guests!
